French Tax on American Tech is a Threat to Innovation Everywhere, Says CTA

The following statement is attributed to Consumer Technology Association (CTA), in response to France’s proposed digital service tax:

“The internet empowers innovators to offer beneficial services to a global audience, regardless of the company's country of origin. It’s disheartening to see a country that proactively supports startups while simultaneously moving to tax some of the world’s greatest tech companies because they are American. The European Union’s Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon (EU GAFA) tax is a cheap shot at the U.S. consumer technology industry and a threat to innovation everywhere.

“CTA is thankful to Representative Darin LaHood (R-IL) and the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee for addressing this issue at the highest level. We are hopeful that the White House will continue to stand up for American innovation and ingenuity.”
