The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® commissioned this study to quantify the electricity consumption of consumer electronics (CE) in U.S. households in 2024, which looks at post pandemic consumer habits. Devices analyzed include traditional consumer electronics, such as computers and monitors, televisions, video game consoles, set top boxes, network equipment, and other common consumer electronic devices. Relative to other energy end uses, electronics tend to have shorter product cycles, rapid adoption, and more varied usage patterns. Since product characteristics can change dramatically in just a few years, it is necessary to provide up-to-date energy consumption assessments, especially to inform energy policy decisions. This is the sixth study characterizing consumer electronics energy consumption in U.S. homes.
