Scope: This Photo Scan Data Notice (“Notice”) describes how Consumer Technology Association® (“CTA,” “we,” “us,” and “our”) uses a service provider to process photographs that may be considered scans of facial geometry and data based on the facial geometry data to match the photo scan to other data (“Photo Scan Data”), subject to certain laws to the extent they are used to determine facial geometry through face comparison functionality. We and our service provider collect such photographs directly from individuals who register to attend CES events, including without limitation, CES 2027 (each, an “Individual”) through CTA’s online or on-site registration process.

This Notice is limited to Photo Scan Data. Please refer to our other applicable privacy notices to learn about our practices for other types of personal information.

Consent: By registering for a CES event and providing your photo, you hereby consent to CTA and our service provider collecting, using, and storing your Photo Scan Data as described in this Notice.

Collection: We and our service provider collect the following data that may be considered Photo Scan Data: facial geometry derived from photographs registrants submit during registration and data based on the facial geometry data used match the photo scan to other data.

Purpose: We and our service provider collect, store, and use the photographs for the following specific purposes: (a) compare submitted photographs against one another to detect and prevent duplicate CES registrations by the same individual, consistent with CTA’s one-badge-per-registrant policy, and (b) compare a submitted photograph against images of individuals with a significant public profile to detect potential impersonation. We do not process Photo Scan Data for any purpose beyond what is described in this Notice.

Retention and Disposal: We retain Photo Scan Data only until, and we will (and we will instruct our service provider to) permanently destroy Photo Scan Data that is stored on CTA’s behalf when the initial purpose for collecting or obtaining such data has been satisfied, when you request that the data be deleted, or earlier, if required by law. In the event of litigation or legal investigation, we may preserve Photo Scan Data as required by law. This information is retained and protected in accordance with legal hold processes.

Data Security: We maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect, including Photo Scan Data. This includes contractual data protection obligations imposed on our service provider who processes Photo Scan Data on our behalf.

Disclosure: We do not, and do not authorize our service provider to, sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from Photo Scan Data or use it for any other purpose other than as outlined above. We may disclose Photo Scan Data to our service provider who assists us with facial comparison, and, only for registrants who consent by registering to attend CES, subject to contractual protections requiring our service provider to maintain the confidentiality and security of the data.
