“We strongly oppose the PRO Act—a sweeping and unnecessary proposal that would upend employer/employee relations and damage American competitiveness. This bill threatens the underpinnings of our vital economy including stripping away Americans’ fundamental right to work without being forced to pay dues and join a union.
“Further, this proposal will hurt business’ ability to hire freelancers and independent contractors—throttling small businesses and the gig economy. Union demands mean investors are less likely to do business in the U.S. and the PRO Act would push them further away. In an economy struggling through the aftermath of a pandemic, the timing couldn’t be worse.
“We’ve been through this before. The PRO Act is a reincarnation of the 2009 ‘card check’ legislation, which failed in government—rejected by Congress, overturned by the judicial system and withdrawn by federal agencies. We urge Congress not to harm our economy, and reject this anti-competitive, anti-worker legislation.”
