The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding Emmanuel Macron's victory in the French presidential election:

"We congratulate Emmanuel Macron on his resounding victory - an endorsement of the country's confidence in the ability of French innovators and technology companies to power the national economy. France has long embraced the power of technology to change our lives for the better and deliver myriad economic benefits. Now, the nation will have a president who supports and enables that power and potential.

"President-elect Macron's ability to lead, and lead well, will help the consumer tech sector thrive. His platform includes plans to reduce government spending, lower corporate taxes and allow companies to negotiate work hours with their employees - all steps that will allow French tech companies to innovate at a lightning-fast pace.

"In addition to recognizing the economic value of immigration and trade and how they drive a global economy, President-elect Macron understands the basic principles of innovation. During one of his two visits to CES® - The Global Stage for Innovation - he discussed the value of 'outsiders' and entrepreneurs, the importance of disruption and said the government's objective should be 'not to block innovation.' With a leader this passionate about the tech sector and the jobs it creates, we expect France's presence at CES - and its international influence - to continue to climb under Macron's leadership.

"While President-elect Macron has a challenging road ahead in a divided France, his country is an emerging world leader in technological innovation. The American technology sector stands ready to support his vision for a forward-looking, innovative future of tech disruption."
