Leaders Steer the Organization Into Its Future
ARLINGTON, VA – February 10, 2026 – Today the Executive Board of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, owner and producer of CES®, is announcing the next era of leadership as Kinsey Fabrizio will be become President and CEO and continue to serve on the Executive Board. Long-time CEO, Gary Shapiro, will continue to serve as Executive Chair, a position he has held since January 1, 2026. The leadership transition will be effective May 1, 2026.
“Today marks an important moment for CTA,” Pat Lavelle, Industry Executive Advisor, CTA Executive Board. “The Executive Board is proud of the strength and continuity this transition brings, and deeply excited for how it sets CTA up for continued success. With Gary and Kinsey in their new roles, we move forward with confidence, focus, and a shared commitment to our future.”
Since joining the association in 2008, Fabrizio has driven transformation across both CTA and CES. As president, she serves on CTA’s Executive Board and has driven strategy and growth for the association and CES, overseeing the organization's core business units and operations. In 2025, she testified before Congress advocating for a federal framework for artificial intelligence.
As senior vice president, she oversaw CES conferences and show operations, led an expansion of CES products, and spearheaded a modernization of CTA’s membership infrastructure and categories. Earlier in her career, she drove strategic growth in emerging technology categories. A pioneer in the digital health space, Fabrizio created CTA’s Health Division, launched a healthcare provider program for doctors at CES 2015, and supported development of the industry’s first voluntary best practices for wearable data, titled Guiding Principles on the Privacy and Security of Personal Wellness Data. She also supported the Video Division Board’s 4K and 8K TV initiatives, founded the Content and Entertainment Council, and played a key role in recruiting emerging gig-economy and internet companies into CTA’s membership.
Before joining CTA, Fabrizio worked with SmithBucklin and Northern Virginia Mediation Service. She is a member of the George Mason University Costello College of Business Dean's Advisory Council and the Washington Economic Club. Fabrizio holds a BA from George Mason University and an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
“I am thankful to have spent most of my career at CTA, learning the organization and working alongside its most important resource, our people,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, President, CTA. “Most importantly, I am grateful for the last 18 years I’ve spent learning from Gary, seeing firsthand how he advocates for our industry, our members, and CES. I’m excited to take on this new role and appreciate that he will continue to mentor me.”
Over a more than 35-year tenure as head of CTA, Shapiro expanded the association’s influence and impact alongside the growth of the technology industry. He began his affiliation with CTA in 1978 as a law student working for a firm representing a part of the Electronic Industries Association. He went in-house to the association in 1981, and through a series of promotions including as General Counsel of EIA, he began leading what is now known as the Consumer Technology Association in 1991. During Gary’s tenure, CTA became an independent association, created the CTA Foundation focused on tech for older people and those with disabilities, and created a $15 million equal opportunity fund focused on funding underrepresented founders, entrepreneurs, and diverse leadership teams. His internal focus on employee well-being led to the creation of a wellness program and bootcamp, student loan payoff program, and $40k forgivable home loan for home purchases near the office.
He has also transformed CES to be the largest annual US trade show -- globally dominant attracting more non-US participants than any other event in the US. Drawing big global brands and innovative new startups alike, CES is the most transparent trade show - adhering to rigorous auditing standards and making attendance data publicly available. In 2023, Shapiro announced technology as a new eighth pillar of the Human Security for All (HS4A) campaign at the United Nations – underscoring the power of technology as a tool to advance human security in all its dimensions.
Under Shapiro’s leadership, CTA’s membership, revenue, and assets expanded tenfold. He served as the leading voice in the infamous Betamax case and SOPA/PIPA. During his tenure, CTA championed the transition to HDTV, led “airplane mode”, championed “Energy Star”, and hundreds of other standards and policies – including a law allowing hearing devices to be sold at retail. He was a leader on the cutting edge of history, helping create Virginia’s internet laws which became the global standard for doing business on the Internet. He has testified before Congress over 20 times, advancing the technology industry’s perspective on cutting-edge issues including intellectual property, artificial intelligence, and self-driving vehicles. He also strongly advocated for innovation, high-skilled immigration, workforce training, and free trade. He established CTA’s position to not seek government funding for the consumer technology industry due to concerns about the growing national debt.
A New York Times bestselling author, Shapiro has written “Ninja Future: Secrets to Success in the New World of Innovation” (HarperCollins, 2019), “Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses” (HarperCollins, 2013) and “The Comeback: How Innovation will Restore the American Dream” (Beaufort, 2011). The newest book, “Pivot or Die: How Leaders Thrive When Everything Changes,” was published by HarperCollins in October 2024. He has written over 1500 commentaries on innovation, competition, and technology.
Shapiro has received multiple tech industry, exhibition, and association profession awards. In 2025, Shapiro received The Media Institute’s Freedom of Speech Award, honoring his leadership in technology and advocacy for free expression. In 2021 he received the Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honor awarded personally by French President Macron). He was also knighted by The Royal Order of Francis I in 2025. CTA also receives dozens of awards each year, including Best Place to Work.
In his role as Executive Chair, Shapiro leads the Executive Board. He will continue to serve as a spokesperson for CTA and CES and advocate for innovation.
“There is a time for everything, and I’m pleased with the new opportunities for CTA and for my next chapter,” said Gary Shapiro, Executive Chair and CEO, CTA. “This transition is part of a long-planned succession. It strengthens our long-term vision and ensures stability as we move forward. I’m excited to continue to partner closely with Kinsey to keep driving progress for the tech industry and CES. Our future is bright and I look forward to championing Kinsey, the important work of our entire organization, and pursuing new ventures.”
To ensure a seamless transition, the leadership changes will become effective on May 1, 2026.
