The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ today announced its Technology & Standards Forum next month in San Francisco, CA, will feature a Health & Fitness Technology Summit and Virtual Reality (VR) Summit.

The events, held at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis May 9-11, 2017, will blend industry strategy sessions, educational opportunities and networking events – part of CTA’s continued efforts to help grow these emerging segments of the consumer technology industry.

Among the events at the CTA Health and Fitness Technology Summit:

  • Luncheon Keynote with Ravi Kuppuraj, CEO, Philips Connected Sensing & Wearable Venture

  • Sessions including Intensity Counts! Leveraging Health & Fitness Tech to Support Worldwide Physical Activity Guidelines and Don't SLEEP on your Data - A Dialogue on Consumer Sleep Technology Data

  • CTA Health and Fitness Technology Division Board meeting (members only) and Technology Subcommittee meeting

  • Meetings of the CTA Consumer Stress Monitoring Technologies, Physical Activity Monitoring and Sleep Monitors Working Groups

Events at the Virtual Reality Summit will include:

  • Panel sessions on VR content development, hardware and the future of gaming

  • VR product demonstrations and explanations of VR, Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) differentiation

  • CTA AR/VR Working Group Meeting (members only)

  • Inaugural meeting of CTA working group developing AR/VR standards

  • VR technology overview and collaboration opportunities

“CTA’s standards program has been very active in the consumer health and fitness technology space for several years now – and this will be an especially influential forum,” said Dave Wilson, vice president, technology & standards, CTA. “We’re now working on recommended performance metrics for sleep monitors, definitions and performance criteria for heart rate monitors, interoperability standards for handling electroencephalogram data, and definitions and characteristics for consumer stress monitors. And after last year’s publication of ANSI/CTA/NSF-2052.1, Definitions and Characteristics for Wearable Sleep Monitors and ANSI/CTA-2056, Physical Activity Monitoring for Fitness Wearables: Step Counting, we’re now launching a new standard to develop terms and definitions related to augmented and virtual reality.”
