The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, regarding the House passage of the Modernizing Government Travel Act:

“We thank Reps. Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Will Hurd (R-TX) for supporting innovation and competition in transportation and reintroducing legislation that will allow federal employees to use alternative options for official, reimbursable travel. Sharing economy platforms – such as bikesharing and ridesharing – boost the U.S. economy, create new job opportunities, save money for consumers and provide safe transportation options. Providing federal government employees access to the benefits of these services provide will support a growing part of our nation’s economy while saving taxpayers money.”

"Ridesharing and bikesharing services have dramatically improved consumer choice, and are quickly becoming essential solutions to our transportation challenges. We applaud Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) Innovation Initiative, in which this bill is included, for acting to ‘remove government-made obstacles to innovation and bring government itself into the 21st century.’ We hope the Senate passes the Modernizing Government Travel Act as soon as possible."
