CTA Urges Congress to Reopen Government and Restore Stability to the U.S. Innovation Economy
October 28, 2025
The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, CEO and Vice Chair, Consumer Technology Association (CTA):
"We urge Congress to vote to open the government. Our federal government provides essential services that sustain our economy and our leadership and innovation. Benching much of our workforce and forcing others to work without pay is damaging to our innovation economy, demeaning and demoralizing to public servants, upsetting to thoughtful Americans, and damaging to our global reputation.
Members of Congress are entrusted by the American people to approve a budget and ensure a functioning government. For decades, Congress has come together to pass responsible bipartisan funding measures that keep our nation moving forward. It's time to do so again.
Every Member of Congress must be willing to compromise and put the nation first, prioritizing solutions over stalemate, and progress over politics.
We believe our political leaders can find a constructive path forward—one that allows both parties to uphold their commitments and immediately get government back moving our nation forward. Congressional leaders can agree on a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government immediately, while also agreeing on a clear timetable for considering and voting on specified health care priorities.”
