OSTP Director Michael Kratsios Outlines Bold Vision for U.S. AI Leadership

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® today hosted a fireside chat with White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP) Director Michael Kratsios highlighting the Administration’s newly released Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan—a blueprint for American leadership in AI.

CTA CEO and Vice Chair Gary Shapiro joined Director Kratsios for the conversation, held at the CTA Innovation House on Capitol Hill.

“The White House’s AI Action Plan sends a powerful signal: the U.S. intends to lead the global AI race,” said Shapiro. “This is a strong, strategic move that champions innovation, streamlines outdated regulation, and strengthens public-private partnerships. This plan aligns with CTA’s Innovation Agenda and we are proud to support this important effort.”

CTA President, Kinsey Fabrizio, opened the event, which was also live streamed to the public.

“Director Kratsios is a tireless champion for American innovation,” said Fabrizio. “The AI Action plan is a turning point, giving innovators a clearer runway to build, test, and scale the AI technologies transforming every sector of our economy. We are so grateful for Director Kratsios’ continued partnership in advancing technology policy that supports American competitiveness.”

The White House AI Action Plan aligns with the CTA Innovation Agenda including:

  • Cutting regulatory red tape for AI developers

  • Mobilizing energy and infrastructure resources needed to scale AI

  • Laying the foundation for stronger public-private partnerships

“[AI] isn’t something we’ve been working on for just six months. It’s something the President prioritized in a way no president in history ever had,” said Kratsios. “There is a breadth of interest in ensuring the AI plan we set forward for the country is one that would be in service of all Americans.”

Through the AI Action Plan, the White House has positioned AI as a top priority for the administration. This comes amid a surge in AI innovation from CTA members and CES exhibitors, who are shaping an AI-led future that is improving productivity, accessibility, healthcare, mobility, and more. CES 2026 will feature the launch of CES Foundry—a new destination dedicated to accelerating breakthroughs in AI, blockchain, and quantum technologies.

CTA has also been a vocal advocate for policies that support American leadership in AI, recently calling on Congress to pause the flurry of state-level bills that make it difficult for businesses to operate and urging legislation establishing a clear national AI policy. CTA’s AI policy framework helps inform the discussion around setting national guardrails for AI, while allowing innovation to flourish.
