The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ® CEO and Vice Chair:

“The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) commends President Trump and Prime Minister Starmer for signing the Technology Prosperity Deal. This landmark agreement underscores the critical importance of U.S.-U.K. collaboration in driving forward innovation, research, and global standards in artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and other emerging technologies.

By advancing pro-innovation AI policies, strengthening standards development, and deepening research partnerships, the U.S. and U.K. are laying the foundation for trusted, interoperable technologies that benefit consumers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. CTA strongly supports the emphasis on joint work around AI infrastructure, quantum readiness, and 6G research, which will help accelerate innovation while safeguarding national and economic security.

With this agreement in place, we encourage the administration to continue efforts to remove U.K. digital trade rules that unfairly target our most innovative companies, and seize this opportunity to maximize the deal’s impact by eliminating tariffs on products moving between the U.S. and U.K.

We look forward to engaging with policymakers, industry, and international partners to ensure this framework delivers on its promise of fostering innovation, protecting research integrity, and strengthening global leadership in the technologies of the future.”
