CTA CEO: Tariff Pause Offers Reprieve, but Uncertainty Still Looms
July 7, 2025
ARLINGTON, VA – JULY 7, 2025 – The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, CEO and Vice Chair, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®:
“The Administration’s decision to extend the tariff ‘pause’ is a welcome reprieve for American consumers and businesses. We commend the President for recognizing sweeping tariffs hurt Main Street American businesses and consumers.
That said, a pause is not a solution. Constantly shifting deadlines, mixed signals, and threats of new tariffs create uncertainty that makes it nearly impossible for American businesses—especially startups and small businesses—to plan, invest, or make long term decisions.
We urge President Trump to use this extension as an opportunity to forge deals that support strong economic growth, strengthen trade ties with friends and allies, and ensure that American families can afford the products they love and rely on.”
