Article Summary

Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® CEO and Vice Chair Gary Shapiro was honored yesterday with a Knighthood in the Royal Order of Francis I, recognizing his leadership in advancing technology and championing the innovations that are transforming our world.

The Royal Order of Francis I, a prestigious Order established by the Royal House of Bourbon two centuries ago, honors individuals in various disciplines including business, science, entertainment, and education for their significant contributions to society.

“I am thrilled to be recognized as a Knight in the Royal Order of Francis I,” said Shapiro. “As the United Nations recognized in 2023, technology is a fundamental aspect of human security. Through our work at CTA and CES, the world’s most powerful tech event, we encourage the innovations that make life better for millions of people.”

Shapiro joins a prestigious list of Knighthood/Damehood recipients in the Order, which counts heads of state and prominent leaders in business and entertainment among its members. These include former United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu, singing legend Frankie Valli, and race car icon Mario Andretti.

“Knighthood is about leadership that fuels the engine of a better society…  [I’ve interviewed] well over 1000 of the top CEOs and Gary has created something unlike anyone else in the world,” said Robert Reiss, CEO, CEO Forum Group, who recommended Shapiro. “From his books to CES, Gary has put forth the vision to drive innovation which emboldens millions of people to elevate their business.”

The induction ceremony took place at St. Agnes Church in Naples, FL.
