After discussions last year around privatizing or ceasing the program, the Trump Administration’s decision to continue the ENERGY STAR program under the leadership of the Department of Energy (DOE) is a win for American consumers and the technology industry.

CTA has long supported and advocated for ENERGY STAR, a public-private partnership that has driven real energy efficiency gains for consumers. Since its inception, ENERGY STAR has helped consumers and purchasers avoid more than $500 billion in energy costs and save 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity. In that same timeframe, more than 7 billion ENERGY STAR certified products have been sold – and according to the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, more than 90% of Americans recognize the mark. As a voluntary, government-backed program, ENERGY STAR is a perfect example of how thoughtful, industry-led guidelines support consumers, innovation, and competition – without imposing regulations.
