The following statement is attributed to Doug Johnson, vice president of technology policy, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, regarding two final rules issued today by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requiring remote identification of drones and allowing drones to operate over people and at night.  
 
“CTA commends the FAA for releasing its long-awaited final rules on remote identification of drones and operating over people and at night – major milestones as drones become more integrated into national airspace. Properly implemented, these rules will enhance safety and security by allowing authorities to identify drones flying in their jurisdictions, while supporting expanded and beneficial uses of drones across the U.S.  

“Drones play an increasingly important role in our lives – from delivering essential supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic to helping first responders during emergencies. With these new rules, it is important to balance the need for regulation against the resulting burden to innovation by ensuring appropriate flexibility and ease of implementation. We need to ensure that drone innovators and operators will be able to continue this good work.”
