Article Summary
Statement from Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA, regarding the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation subcommittee hearing on the state of U.S. spectrum policy.

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, regarding today’s U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation subcommittee hearing on the state of U.S. spectrum policy.

"Now more than ever, Americans need better broadband access. During the COVID-19 pandemic, millions have relied on the internet for remote work and school, connecting with their doctors and staying in touch with friends and loved ones. Today’s hearing marks a critical step toward long-term solutions for our nation’s growing demand for spectrum. CTA thanks Chairman Wicker, Ranking Member Cantwell and members of the committee for their proactive focus on this important issue.

“We are pleased to see bipartisan leadership on spectrum policy coming from both houses of Congress. In addition to today’s hearing in the Senate, Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee recently introduced dozens of forward-thinking bills that could improve Americans’ access to wireless connectivity. We urge Congress to enact policies that expand access to spectrum and speed up infrastructure deployment to get broadband into the hands of all hardworking Americans.”

Recently, CTA sent a letter to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the House Energy and Commerce Committee outlining spectrum and broadband infrastructure needs. Read the full letter here
