ARLINGTON, Va. (Feb. 1, 2024) – Today the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) is praising the creation of the new bipartisan Congressional Digital Health Caucus on Capitol Hill. The Caucus launched by U.S. Reps. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) and Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) will help keep lawmakers up to date about new developments in digital health innovation to ensure all Americans will be able to access new life-changing - and potentially life-saving – health technology.
Gary Shapiro, CTA president and CEO, joined Representatives Balderson and Kelly for today’s announcement on Capitol Hill, which was followed by a panel discussion moderated by CTA’s Senior Vice President, Kinsey Fabrizio.
“I’d like to thank Representatives Balderson and Kelly for their leadership in forming the Congressional Digital Health Caucus,” Shapiro said. “We know getting things done on the Hill isn’t always easy. But this is a bipartisan priority, and the Digital Health Caucus will address issues we should all get behind: helping Americans access and afford quality health care – and helping the American tech companies and other innovators leading the way in this space. That means public policies that support health innovation.”
After the launch of the Caucus, CTA’s Fabrizio led a discussion about how AI is already reshaping health care with a panel of experts sharing their thoughts on new developments and policy impacts. Panelists included Peter Clardy, MD, Senior Clinical Specialist, Google, David Rhew, MD, Global Chief Medical Officer and VP of Healthcare, Microsoft, Maulik Shah, General Counsel, Hippocratic AI, and Angela A. Shippy, MD, MHA, FACP, FHM, Senior Physician Executive and Clinical Innovation Lead, Global Healthcare & Nonprofit, Amazon Web Services.
