"To combat climate change, the tech industry must incentivize innovation and champion technology-based solutions," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. "Consumer tech already provides many solutions to address climate challenges well beyond the electronics industry. Home automation systems cut unnecessary energy use, tech-enabled telecommuting reduces car travel and emissions, and newer tech products use less electricity. And there's nowhere better than CES, the global stage for innovation, to scout the next startup that can deliver meaningful emission reductions."
WHEN:
Submissions will be accepted via online form through November 16. Winners will be announced on December 20th and recognized at CES Sustainability Day on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
DETAILS:
Applicants must be under contract as CES 2018 Eureka Park exhibitors and exhibit a product or technology potential for substantial GHG reductions. A CTA-selected committee of GHG and industry experts will award up to 15 winners based on the following qualifications: 1) the demonstrated and quantified potential of their technology to reduce GHG emissions; 2) identified economic sector(s) of reduction potential; and 3) the credibility of methodology used to estimate reduction potential.
Winners will receive a table top award for display in Eureka Park and exposure to CES media and attendees through recognition on CES 2018 Sustainability Day.
For full contest rules and to apply, visit the Climate Change Innovators webpage.
As the owner of the largest, hands-on event for emerging innovation that continues to produce a greener trade show, CES wants to highlight companies with the significant potential to reduce GHG emissions. These innovators will be evaluated on their product's or technology's potential to reduce emissions in or across the five primary sources of greenhouse gases: electricity and heat production; facility operations; agriculture or other land use; transportation; and buildings.
CTA is committed to making CES greener than ever. At CES 2017, more than 60,000 attendees traveled from outside the U.S., representing 158 countries. CES saves executives from traveling an estimated 3.4 billion miles for business - participating in an average of 33 meetings while at the show. Last year, CES recycled 1,300 tons of materials at the LVCC and Sands and repurposed 1.6 million square feet of carpet while diverting 23,000 square feet of paper and mesh from the landfill.
