The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, regarding the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021, which passed the House of Representatives today.

“As one of the first immigration reform measures passed by the House this year, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 is a positive step toward modernizing our nation’s immigration system. This bill gives Dreamers a long-overdue pathway to citizenship. But Congress must also ensure we attract the best and brightest to live and work in the United States.

“As our economy recovers from the pandemic, Congress and the Biden Administration should make immigration reform a top priority. America’s global technology leadership and economic competitiveness rely on us being a nation of immigrants – many of whom start companies, create jobs and drive innovation. In fact, immigrants and their children have founded just over half of our country’s billion-dollar startups.

“CTA urges Congress and the administration to work together to pursue bipartisan and commonsense immigration reform that ensures America remains that ‘shining city on the hill’ with the best and most innovative people in the world.”
