Bringing Greater Precision to Industrial Robotics
Siemens, a leader in industrial technology, is developing innovations that transform the everyday — making factories more efficient, cities more livable and transportation more sustainable. In partnership with Danobot, the company recently introduced its new SINUMERIK Machine Tool Robot (MTR) Essential.
Combining SINUMERIK control with advanced robotics, MTR Essential is described as the world's most precise CNC milling robot. Traditional industrial robots can struggle with demanding machining tasks, such as cutting hard materials like steel, where high forces and vibrations can reduce accuracy, impact surface quality and increase tool wear. Siemens' latest innovation addresses these challenges through CNC control and active vibration damping.
The robot's revolutionary drive concept and advanced motion control represent a breakthrough in industrial manufacturing. The milling robot makes high-force applications, including machining steel, possible within a robot cell. The technology can deliver 200 to 300% better path accuracy and significantly higher dynamic rigidity compared to conventional industrial robots. This innovation can boost machining performance and flexibility while improving productivity by 20 to 40%.
With support for G-code and existing computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) workflows, the robot can be integrated into production environments without requiring operators to learn separate robot programming languages. Siemens' Digital Twin Composer software, introduced by President and CEO Dr. Roland Busch during his CES 2026 keynote, also offers opportunities to simulate and validate manufacturing processes before production.
Potential applications include aerospace components, energy equipment and repairs to structures that are difficult to move, demonstrating how advanced robotics can bring greater precision and flexibility to industrial operations.
As companies like Siemens advance what industrial robots can accomplish, others are exploring how robots can work alongside people to support everyday operations.
Humanoids Taking the Strain Out of the Production Line
Last month, Agility Robotics, a U.S.-based robotics company known for its humanoid robots designed for logistics, warehousing and manufacturing environments, unveiled Digit 5, the latest edition of its flagship robot. The fifth-generation humanoid robot is designed to support safe, scalable deployment in commercial and industrial environments.
Developed to work alongside people, Digit 5 incorporates enhanced safety and physical AI capabilities to meet changing workflow demands and adapt to new challenges. Built for demanding industrial environments, the robot can handle heavier loads, offers a greater range of motion and features a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio, helping reduce physical strain on operators while spending more time on the floor.
Digit 5 is also equipped with fleet management software that integrates with compatible warehouse automation systems. The latest generation uses NVIDIA IGX Thor for onboard computing, supporting its advanced capabilities.
To further expand the safety infrastructure surrounding Digit 5, Agility Robotics recently announced a strategic partnership with FORT Robotics. The partnership introduces an Offboard Safety Bridge that connects the robot to external safety systems, extending protection beyond its onboard sensors and controls.
This collaboration aims to improve trust, accountability and safe human-robot interaction as humanoid robot deployments continue to scale, helping businesses explore new ways to integrate robotics into their existing operations.
While humanoid robots are creating new opportunities for collaboration on the factory floor, AI and digital technologies are also transforming how manufacturers develop, test and deploy robotic systems.
Making Manufacturing Smarter with AI
Schaeffler is developing AI-powered robotics to help manufacturers scale automation, improve operational efficiency and accelerate the adoption of industrial and humanoid robots across global manufacturing networks. This month, the company announced a technology partnership with Wandelbots, a robotics and physical AI company, to develop a digital platform that integrates AI and intelligent robotics into manufacturing operations.
The platform is built on Wandelbots NOVA, an open software platform designed to help manufacturers develop, test, validate and deploy robotic applications across different production environments. Through this partnership, Schaeffler will be able to develop robotic applications digitally, simulate manufacturing processes and test robot tasks before implementing them on production lines.
Using digital twins alongside NVIDIA Omniverse and Isaac Sim technologies, the platform will help manufacturers simulate and optimize robotic applications, identify potential issues and improve production processes before physical implementation.
Schaeffler and Wandelbots aim to reduce the life-cycle costs of automation solutions by up to 40% across new and existing manufacturing environments while shortening development times and making production more flexible.
From precision machining to humanoid collaboration and AI-powered automation, Siemens, Agility Robotics and Schaeffler are demonstrating how robotics can help manufacturers work smarter, improve productivity and prepare for the next generation of industrial innovation.
