TV Energy Efficiency Voluntary Agreement
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, together with leading television manufacturers, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) established a landmark voluntary agreement in 2023 to significantly improve the energy efficiency of TVs sold in the United States and Canada. The program commitments once fully implemented are expected to reduce annual power consumption by at least 10 terawatt hours (10 billion kilowatt hours), equivalent to the power generated by 3.5 typical 500-megawatt coal-run power plants for the entire year.
The landmark agreement is based in part on a groundbreaking CTA method for measuring TV energy consumption developed with extensive input from energy advocates, regulators and TV manufacturers. This measurement procedure, ANSI/CTA-2037-D, was subsequently adopted by the U.S. Department of Energy as the official government procedure for measuring TV energy consumption.
TV VA Annual Reports
Each year the Independent Administrator and Steering Committee publish an annual report on the progress of the voluntary agreement to achieve energy efficiency for televisions. As a public facing report, there is no disclosure of any confidential or commercially sensitive information.
