SCOTUS Decision to Curb Patent Venue Cases Is A Victory for Small Businesses, Says CTA

Arlington, VA – May 22, 2017 –
The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the TC Heartland v. Kraft Foods Group Brands case:
"The Supreme Court's unanimous decision sends a strong message to patent trolls: knock it off. Now small and medium-sized businesses have a fairer chance of fighting against bogus patent extortion attempts. While the decision ending venue shopping will strengthen our patent system and slow down abuse, we still need Congress to act and pass legislation to close additional loopholes exploited by patent trolls."

Patent abuse costs the U.S. economy more than $80 billion a year.
