CTA Encourages House to Support CRA Rescinding FCC Broadband Privacy Rules

March 28, 2017 – March 28, 2017 –

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, regarding Tuesday's House vote to rescind burdensome internet regulations imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

"Ahead of today's vote, CTA urges the House to push the CRA across the finish line. The FCC's flawed broadband privacy rules will have a chilling effect on internet innovation and competition. Further, this overreaching rule was put into place without full consideration for the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) pre-existing framework, which already provides consumer protection for user information while also fostering data-driven innovation. The FCC rules are overly broad, inconsistent and out-of-touch with the FTC's approach."

"We commend and thank Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) for introducing this important resolution rescinding the FCC's problematic regulation."
