CTA Applauds House Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing and Calls on Congress to Pass Patent Reform

Arlington, VA – June 13, 2017 –

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding the House Judiciary Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet Subcommittee hearing “Examining the Supreme Court's TC Heartland decision”:

"Every day, American small businesses are attacked by patent abusers who threaten job creation and innovation. We thank Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) for their commitment to making our patent system the best in the world and cracking down on bad actors who treat it as a cheap extortion scheme. The U.S. Supreme Court’s Heartland decision was a victory, but now more than ever we need Congress to take legislative action to close the additional loopholes exploited by patent trolls. Every week that patent trolling continues, another $1.5 billion is drained from our economy, and entrepreneurs are forced to waste time fighting frivolous extortion attempts instead of creating jobs.”
