Ahead of Senate Confirmation Hearing, CTA Calls for Swift Vote to Confirm FCC Nominees

Arlington, VA – July 18, 2017 –

Ahead of Wednesday's confirmation hearing being held by the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) calls for a swift vote to confirm the president's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) nominees.

"Now more than ever, innovators and entrepreneurs need certainty from government rules," said CTA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "A FCC with a full slate of commissioners will ensure continued forward momentum on issues critical to American consumers, American enterprise and the American economy. A fully functioning FCC is crucial to growing U.S. leadership in the digital economy and setting a market-driven, pro-innovation approach on communications and tech policy issues.

“We look forward to working together with the administration to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our industry, including finding additional licensed and unlicensed spectrum. Chairman Ajit Pai, former Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and nominee Brendan Carr have proven themselves critical thinkers on key issues impacting the FCC and the broader world of technology.

“We ask the full Senate to take swift action on confirming these critical nominees – and on David Redl, who’s now awaiting confirmation to become assistant secretary for communications and information at the Department of Commerce – so this administration can address the critical policies that will allow the U.S. tech sector to continue creating good jobs, driving America’s global leadership and delivering life-changing innovations.”
