CTA Applauds Senate Passage of Mobile NOW Act

Arlington, VA – August 4, 2017 –

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding the Senate passage of the MOBILE NOW (Making Opportunities for Broadband Investment and Limiting Excessive and Needless Obstacles to Wireless) Act:

“We thank Chairman John Thune (R-SD) and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) for their leadership on this bill. We encourage the House to swiftly pass the MOBILE NOW Act and consider how this bill will improve consumers’ lives, empower businesses and bolster our nation’s economy by adding vital spectrum for commercial use. Supporting this bill will create better mobile broadband for us all, spurring developments in cellular 5G technologies and securing our wireless future.

“Spectrum powers our mobile economy. Americans rely on spectrum every day, from streaming content online and posting on social media to operating drones and other emerging technologies. Keeping all of our devices working and online—and keeping American innovation at the forefront of world progress—means meeting the rising demand for licensed and unlicensed spectrum.”
