CEA Applauds House Passage of USA FREEDOM Act

Arlington, VA – May 13, 2015 –

The following statement is attributed to Michael Petricone, senior vice president of government and regulatory affairs, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 2048, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Fulfilling Rights and Ensuring Effective Discipline Over Monitoring (USA FREEDOM) Act of 2015:

“We applaud the House for acting swiftly to pass this important legislation ahead of the upcoming expiration of Section 215 of the Patriot Act. The bipartisan USA FREEDOM Act is common sense reform to our nation’s intelligence gathering programs, which will restore trust in American services and products and preserve our competitiveness worldwide, while continuing to protect our national security.

“The White House is ready to support this thoughtful legislation. We now urge the Senate to seize this opportunity to support intelligence gathering reforms that reflect our key values of transparency and a strong national defense.”
