CEA Encouraged by House Republican Leadership’s Immigration Principles

Arlington, VA – January 31, 2014 –
The following statement is attributable to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, in regard to the unveiling of the House Republican leadership’s immigration principles:
“CEA strongly believes we must modernize our nation’s legal immigration system to grow American jobs and maintain U.S. leadership in innovation. Our immigration policies have failed to adapt, placing our nation’s competitive advantage at risk.
“We are pleased that the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives called for increasing the number of highly-skilled workers and innovators as part of their principles that will guide the immigration discussion in the House. We must embrace immigration reforms that will help encourage foreign-born entrepreneurs, workers and U.S.-educated immigrants to come to and stay in America to build businesses and create domestic jobs.
“We look forward to working with the full House as immigration reform moves forward. We urge the House to act quickly to bring legislation to the floor for a vote.”
