Sara Rice, Social Media Intern, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)

When Pokémon Go was released in the summer of 2016 it instantly became a phenomenon. Augmented reality (AR) technology has continued to advance since then and the releases of new smartphones are leading to the development of new AR apps.

Now the creators of Pokémon Go have a plan for the future. They are planning to use audio to enhance the AR experience. Audio could be used in a variety of ways to show that AR isn’t just visual, including giving instructions about which location to visit, enabling a phone call to receive more clues or combining audio with the phone’s sensors.
