Shoppers Are Using Smartphones and Smart Speakers to Score the Holiday Deals

Sara Rice, Social Media Intern, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)

Black Friday week is just days away and holiday shoppers are ready to score the best deals shopping online. For the first time ever, more consumers will use their smartphone for holiday shopping compared to any other device, according to the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA) 2017 Pre-Black Friday Survey.

More than 60 percent of consumers will use a smartphone to shop compared to laptops (54 percent) and desktops (46 percent). Tech continues to play a larger role in the shopping process as 19 percent of U.S. adult shoppers plan to use voice-activated smart speakers like Amazon Echo or Google Home to do their holiday shopping.

The 2017 holiday season will be one of firsts, as more Americans will shop on Cyber Monday than Black Friday - 51 percent will shop on Cyber Monday across all channels (in-store, online and mobile) and only 38 percent said they will shop on Black Friday.
