TBT: Rewind Memories of the VCR

Before DVDs and streaming video services, VCRs brought movies to our living rooms and ushered in the home entertainment revolution. Now, after years of living in the shadow of its tech successors, the last VCR will be manufactured this month.

Seven years before it hit U.S. shelves, a VCR prototype was unveiled at CES 1970. Fast-forward to 2016 and 82 percent of households would “never buy” a VCR, according to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Ownership & Market Potential study.

Before it joins 8-track tapes and floppy disks in tech heaven, let’s rewind and take a look back at the VCR.
