Ford Is Speeding Ahead Toward Autonomous Vehicles

Michael Williams, Digital Media Intern, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)

Whether it’s going to the grocery store or heading on a weekend getaway, our car trips are about to be a lot different. Ford, a Consumer Technology Association (CTA) member, announced plans to have fully autonomous vehicles in commercial operation beginning in 2021.

The company has created a comprehensive engineering program to support mobility solutions and the business opportunities required to support their mission.

“The world is changing, and it’s changing quickly. We’re not sitting on the sidelines,” said President and CEO Mark Fields in the announcement.  “Ford will be actively driving that change.”

The vehicles, designed specifically for ridesharing services, will both reduce traffic congestion and pollution and save us the pain of finding a parking spot.

Autonomous vehicles will be on full display at CES 2017 at the Vehicle Intelligence Marketplace. Registration for CES opens on Sept. 6.
