Beacons, Beacons Everywhere

Sean Parker, Director of Digital Media Marketing, Consumer Technology Association

There will be a lot to see at CES 2016. Plenty of new products and innovations on hand for attendees to look at and interact with. But there is one technology we hope you use but don’t actually see, beacons. For the uninitiated, beacons are small, low energy, Bluetooth sensors which transmit signals and typically interact with a mobile app. We’ve integrated beacons into the CES 2016 App to help you get the most out of your show experience. We’ll be using beacons to alert the app to display messages and content at specific locations and guide you like GPS around the show floor.

At CES 2014 we deployed a small number of Apple’s iBeacons to help facilitate a beacon-based scavenger hunt. At CES 2015 with the help of our beacon partner, Radius Networks, we deployed more than 800 beacons across 23 locations. For CES 2016, we will be adding more beacons to the mix to help attendees find their way around the show. We are also bringing back the scavenger hunt with several new areas as badge destinations. Download the CES App now to help plan your CES 2016 experience and join us in our scavenger hunt once the show begins on January 9. See you in Vegas!
