Here's How LG is Using Next Generation Energy-Efficient Technology

John Taylor, LG Electronics USA

Spring is finally here and as we celebrate Earth Month, this is the perfect time for all of us to do our part in helping to fight climate change and save energy. It’s time for spring cleaning and whether consumers are looking to upgrade their home electronics or replace old products, the consumer electronics industry leads the way in offering consumers lots of great options for energy-efficient products.

The good news is that the ENERGY STAR® program, which is known and respected by consumers and retailers alike, makes this easier for shoppers to find those energy-efficient products. Products with the ENERGY STAR label mean that they meet strict energy-efficiency requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and give consumers confidence that they’re saving money and energy while saving the planet.

Consistent with CEA’s industry-wide commitment to energy efficiency, LG Electronics has been a leading proponent of the EPA’s “ENERGY STAR® MOST EFFICIENT” designation that helps consumers and retailers identify the consumer electronics products that save the most energy. While 2014 TV models are just starting to roll out now, last year 2013, 97 LG television models were recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2013 – more than any other manufacturer in the television category, and a significant increase from the 33 LG TVs recognized in 2012.

In addition, LG supports CEA’s “Billion Pound Challenge,” collecting and responsibly recycling millions of unused and unusable electronics each year. Using only e-Stewards-certified recyclers, LG collected and recycled almost 50 million pounds of electronics in the past year while also spreading the word that consumers can go a step further in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by replacing their old electronics with new ENERGY STAR qualified products. We offer a useful online search tool at www.lgerecyclingprogram.com to help consumers find free drop off locations near them.

Small actions really do make a difference when it comes to fighting climate change. We encourage industry colleagues to join LG in taking the “Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR” Pledge. And to learn more about LG ENERGY STAR certified products visit lg.com/us/energy-star.
