CEA Applauds Introduction of Federal Spectrum Incentive Action Legislation
Arlington, VA – 12/10/2013 – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®   today hailed the introduction of H.R. 3674, The Federal Spectrum Incentive Act of 2013 that provides an innovative approach to federal spectrum management and reallocation by U.S. Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Doris Matsui (D-Calif.), co-chairs of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Spectrum Working Group.
The bipartisan legislation provides financial incentives to encourage government agencies to terminate or share with other federal agencies their existing spectrum assignments in order to free up additional spectrum for commercial and innovation purposes. The bill is also cosponsored by Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and Ranking Member Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.).
Veronica O’Connell, vice president, congressional affairs, CEA, released the following statement in response to the legislation:

“We welcome this innovative, bipartisan legislation. Effective and efficient use of spectrum, both commercial and federal, is vital to ensuring that our nation has enough supply to keep up with demand. By providing the right mix of incentives, we hope it will encourage federal users to seriously consider terminating or sharing existing spectrum assignments.
“We are hopeful that the bill will have strong bipartisan support during the markup on December 11, and urge for quick consideration by the full House.”
