Only Seven Percent of TV Households Rely on Over-the-Air Signals, According to CEA Study

New research released today from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ® found that just seven percent of American TV households rely solely on an antenna for their television programming. The findings of the new study, U.S. Household Television Usage Update, are consistent with CEA’s 2010 research which found eight percent of TV households reported using an antenna only for television programming. According to historical CEA research, there has been a gradual decline in the percentage of TV households using antennas since 2005. The  phone survey of 1,009 U.S. adults is comparable to a 2012 Nielsen study indicating nine percent of all U.S. TV households are broadcast TV/over-the-air only, a decrease from 16 percent in 2003. Tablet Adoption Rates Cool in Second Quarter, According to CEA’s Quarterly Tablet Report

Four in ten (41 percent) online U.S. consumers indicate they own a tablet, roughly on par with ownership rates reported in March 2013 (40 percent), according to research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. CEA Recognized as Number One Trade Association for Use of Social Media

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® ranks first in use of social media among Washington, D.C.-based trade associations, according to a recently released APCO Worldwide  study. The TradeMarks Study named CEA as one of nine high-performing associations based on 15 characteristics of public policy effectiveness. Mobile Connected Devices Drive CE Industry; Resurgence in Auto, Audio, TV Segments, Finds CEA Forecast

Mobile connected devices, including smartphones and tablets, continue to drive consumer electronics (CE) industry sales, according to The U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecasts, the semi-annual industry report released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. The report also finds positive growth in segments within automotive technology, audio products and TV displays. Overall CE industry revenue will hold steady relative to 2012 levels, growing an estimated 0.2 percent in the U.S in 2013. July’s forecast also introduces sales data for new categories: fitness technology, desktop 3D printers and Bluetooth/airplay-enabled speakers. Full Release
