CTA Comments on Burr-Feinstein Discussion Draft of The Compliance with Court Order Act

Today, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ provided comments to Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on their discussion draft of "The Compliance with Court Order Act of 2016." In a letter, CTA stresses the importance of having a national dialogue on encryption, balancing security concerns with the need for strong encryption and notes that removing the ability to appeal a court order violates due process: "CTA believes we need to have a national conversation about encryption." Trade Associations Unite Against North Carolina's Anti-Equality Law

The leaders of major technology and manufacturing associations representing more than 45,000 businesses today called on North Carolina's Governor and General Assembly leadership to revisit the state's recently enacted anti-equality law. In a letter signed by CompTIA, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM and National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) among others, the groups' leaders say their member companies are less likely to want to invest or locate in North Carolina because of House Bill 2 (HB2).  Full Release

Home Automation, IoT Could Cut Energy Consumption 10 Percent, says CTA Study

Our increasing use of home automation technology through the Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential for substantial energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions, according to a new study released today by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ™. The study The Energy Savings Potential of Home Automation Technology finds widespread adoption of home automation products such as temperature, circuit and lighting control, if used for energy savings purposes, could collectively avoid up to 100 million tons of CO2 emissions and reduce total residential primary energy consumption by as much as 10 percent - that savings is more than consumer electronics' share of residential primary energy consumption (8.4 percent) according to a separate CTA study.
