Internet Video Leaders Announce Interoperability Effort

Today, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ - formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® - announced the formation of the Global Internet Video Ecosystem (GIVE) Project. The GIVE Project is a coordinated global drive towards interoperability of over-the-top (OTT) streaming video across player devices, operating systems, browsers and app software involved in making video work on consumer devices. Founding members of the GIVE Steering Committee include leaders in content, infrastructure, technology and displays such as Adobe, Akamai, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sky-UK, Sony, Starz and WWE. Consumers Technology Association Applauds Passage of Senate Chemical Safety Reform Bill

The following statement is attributed to Walter Alcorn, vice president of environmental affairs and industry sustainability, Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ™ - formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ® - regarding the Senate's passage of S. 697, the "Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act:" "Our nation's chemical safety laws will now be updated and strengthened thanks to the Senate's overwhelming support to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Sensible TSCA reform was long overdue. That vacuum led to a proliferation of costly and ineffective state-based chemical regulatory programs that confuse consumers and manufacturers alike."

FAA Embraces Many of Task Force's Recommendations Regarding Drone Registration

The following statement is attributed to Douglas Johnson, vice president, technology policy, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ - formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® - and member of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) UAS Registration Task Force, regarding the FAA's announcement of its small UAS registration rule: "We appreciate the FAA's decision to embrace many of the Task Force's recommendations regarding a consumer drone registration system. However, we disagree with the decision to impose a five-dollar registration fee - a 'drone tax,' which will hamper registration and discourage compliance. Full Release
